In Search of the True Word.

Antabey's Land Haven by Phillis Sanfiorenzo

Like, in my previous blog- I mentioned that Art inspires, individual interpretation.
After taking this class and being exposed to many texts that speak of the word of God himself, and of the views of the who believe in him in the different ways that they do- one may assume that this sort of exposure would encourage clarity.
However, in my case in particular, it has not, but rather more confusion. When i say confusion however, i do not mean it in a negative way at all, but rather the opposite.
As a child you are born into this world, and to whichever and whatever,  family and religion you are born into, it is normally that religion that your believes are nurtured in.
It is only when one is of age and given an opportunity of exposure, such as myself, that one encounters different texts and different people with different believes.
The first encounter with an individual who comes from a different background than yours, is probably rough, and hostile-
You have your believes set in stone, and ready to defend what you have known from birth (and rightly so), but time and time again, you are bombarded with other material, other people- that pose questions to your very belief, and with time, what was once set in stone, begins to wash away- and what was once so clear to you, now is a blur of many different questions.
Perhaps this is the entry pass to adulthood, when one figures out what it is he or she believes in and decides to stand for it.
This piece of art, to me was a reflection of my current sate.
The statue is of a merman who has left is comfort zone in the sea, to come to land and read about that of which he does not know, and perhaps find a truth that can resonate with him, and clear his current state of confusion, that perhaps lead him to leave his home in the sea at the first place.
I wonder if this piece encourages other believers, to read their holy books and others as well in search of the truth.
I believe, that this piece of art can serve as a reflection, for us to question what we do and do not know by reading what is given and what we find as well in search of the true word that resonates with us and our God.
